Do Hornets Die After They Sting?

The short answer is no, they don’t. Honeybees die after stinging you because their stinger is barbed and stays in the puncture wound; attached to the stinger is the venom sac and the glands that supply it, which are pulled from the body when the bee leaves the sting site.

What is the best way to treat a bee sting?

Vinegar may also help neutralize bee venom. Soak the sting site in a basin of apple cider vinegar for at least 15 minutes. You can also soak a bandage or cloth in the vinegar and then apply it to the sting site.

When do you need to worry about a bee sting?

In most cases, bee stings don’t require a visit to your doctor. In more-severe cases, you’ll need immediate care. Call 911 or other emergency services if you’re having a serious reaction to a bee sting that suggests anaphylaxis, even if it’s just one or two signs or symptoms.

Could a bee sting kill you?

Answer Wiki. As others have noted, the generally accepted number of honeybee stings that is sufficient to kill you is 10 or 11 stings per pound of body weight. So a 160-pound person could die from 1,600 to 1,760 stings in a short period of time. (Of course, if you are allergic to bee stings, even a single sting could cause death.)
